What is ACP?

Addison Consortium Program (ACP) is a program made possible by three different school districts. In this unique collaboration the School districts serving Mount Abe, Vergennes and Middlebury have identified a need for additional services and created the Addison Consortium Program.

Students are referred to ACP from all of the participating districts. ACP works with the sending school to ensure students are earning appropriate credits toward graduation while attending ACP. Learning Teams at ACP communicate with families, Case Managers and other identified parties to ensure students are meeting educational and social emotional goals.

This program is designed to engage non-traditional learners in an immersive learning environment. Our goal is to engage students as they improve their emotional and behavioral responses to challenges that impact their ability to access learning.

Each day is a new beginning for students as they build trusting relationships with educators and their own abilities to achieve goals.

  • This program implements the core concepts of the trauma informed classroom. This program offers a flexible pathway so that students will create goals of personal growth, relationship, accountability and self regulation to support their academic success.

  • Students will begin each day with a whole group check in. After check in students will depart for the off site interactive learning experience. The Learning Team will be with students as they engage with nature, do hands-on projects and create a sense of mastery around transferable skills for everyday living. Some days programming will return to campus, share lunch and review the morning’s experience. The afternoon will be academic integration of the experiences with a curriculum led by the Special Educators.

  • Students will begin each day off site in an immersive learning environment. The program has currently aligned with some independent venues such as: the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum where students learn the history of Lake Champlain and engage with hands on building of a whaler boat from harvesting the lumber to launching it for a maiden voyage; ACP has an offsite outdoor classroom where students will be building a yurt and their own greenhouse using local resources. Outdoor adventure/team building activities will be led by ACP staff.
